Flower Quill-o-ette
A few years back, I bought a quilling lot from ebay. It included a book called Country Quilling by Gene and Joan Florida. The book introduces a concept called quill-o-ettes. A quill-o-ette is basically a quilled background topped with a paper cutout or silhouette.
I've always thought this looked really interesting and now, with some time on my hands, I decided that I wanted to try making something similar.

I started by doing a sketch of a design and then I cut it out.
I then painted the background. The pink came out a bit strong, but it looked good with the purple cutout and I thought it would look nice through the quilled pieces.
Next, I began quilling the areas that would be outlined as flowers.

After that, I added the bubbles.
Then, I filled in the rest of the background. I think it looks interesting and abstract this way.
It looks pretty great with the papercut on top, too!
I ended up giving this as a house warming gift to my in-laws for their beach house in Delaware.
